The Legends of Ranching Performance Horse Sale
and Program has always been a favorite of mine. From the high quality event production, high quality horses, and so much more. However, what I think I love most about it is what it brings to the students at Colorado State, the community, and the Equine Industry. This sale has always been one where you can be sure you will be purchasing a great, well-trained horse, but it's more than that. You are also experiencing and seeing the love, care, and commitment these students have put in over the past year with their horses that are consigned from amazing ranches and horse farms around the country. The connections made during the student competition, preview, and sale within the equine industry are only a part of what you see from the Legends of Ranching Program.
2024's LOR sale was no exception if it did not further prove the belief everyone has in the value and dedication that the program brings to the Equine Sciences Department. Through the history made with the highest selling horse in the sale's history of $150,000 and higher than average sales numbers from all the horses! However, planning this year's sale and promoting it didn't come without it's challenges as CSU equine sciences had to cancel the sale in 2023 due to other reasons. Which for new instructors Alex Parsaye, Dr. Devan Catalano, and Dr. Carleigh Fedorka gave them some new obstacles to overcome and they did brilliantly by bringing in new marketing professionals to step up to the next level of marketing to promote the sale and the horses throughout the year, inviting guest clinicians, and more. You will hear more about that in the episode from Alex herself and what hopes she has for next year and years to come!
Furthermore, you will also be hearing from Jenna Hammel in today's episode who was the amazing student who was privileged to be able to train that high selling horse I mentioned before, Poco 21 aka Benji consigned by Todd Bean and Bar Rock-n-Bean. She shares all about her journey with him from day 1 to the moments we saw captured on video and in person at the sale! I loved how she took her time to build a real bond and true friendship with Benji to get him to trust her which I believe that large number just further proved the hard work and love she put into her training with him. She also talks about what being apart of such an amazing program with the other students, other horses, and the instructors meant to her and her plans for the future post-grad!
I had so much fun talking with Jenna and Alex in this episode and we share a few laughs together in the episode as we are just three horse loving gals that are excited about the equine industry, this program, and most importantly the horse!
