Education is such a powerful resource in the world, but especially in the equine industry. I have talked about it before on the podcast and it is something that I have always grown up knowing is that you learn something new everyday with horses. Whether in the academic sense or from practical experience working directly with them.
On today's episode, I am sharing my conversation with someone who i believe truly defines an educated cowgirl. From the degrees she holds, judging cards, training experience, and so much more. Alyssa Logan is the assistant professor in the Horse Science department at Middle Tennessee State University. I can say that I learned so much from talking about her story, hearing about her passion for her students, judging, her research projects, and more.
This is such an important episode right now for the horse industry as it is one of those great conversations we need to be having about a wide variety of topics that I believe will benefit the horse and the public. Alyssa and I discuss the value of education and continuing education in the industry, how her findings in her research projects have brought so many fantastic and interesting insights that can really improve the health and performance of the horse at any age, sportsmanship in the industry today, and how we can reach out more to the general public for better promotion and involvement.
I think my favorite part of the episode is our conversation about sportsmanship. This has always been something I strive to show myself as a competitor and teach as an instructor. My parents raised me to be grateful and humble in competition, but also to be a helping hand out of the arena. As we talk about in the episode, being a good sportsmen is having respect for your horse, the staff, judges, other competitors, and everyone at the show. We also talk about that sportsmanship is about mentorship and helping those behind you that are
looking up to you.
Alyssa's love for what she does and her involvement in the equine industry is so inspiring and incredible! I hope listening to our conversation will help you to spark up your own conversations and share this with all of your friends, family and everyone you know!
