"Every Decision Drives the Industry!" with Patti Carter from NRHA

Updated: Jan 24

I am very excited to bring you today's episode as I will be talking about something that I am very passionate about and would love to grow more in my career and that is judging! I loved that I got to talk about it with Patti Carter the Sr Director of Education & Officials at NRHA (National Reining Horse Association). Patti has been involved in the horse industry for her whole life as a competitor, trainer, and as a judge. She brings so much insight not only from the world of judges, but from a trainer and competitor view as well.

We discuss in this episode about everything from continuing education for judges & potential judges, participation at shows, and so much more! Patti does such a great job ensuring that judges have that right tools and education to do a very tough job fairly and responsibly! Which is only made tougher has the horses get better and there is more at stake. It is also important that we understand that judges work very hard and communicate with each other to make the right decision for the classes.

Patti and I also discussed that what is important to help participation at shows thrive and grow for the industry is to collaborate and support the local shows in our communities as that is where it all starts at that level whether they continue on to compete at the big shows, become judges themselves one day, or however they choose to be involved with the industry. In order to promote the horse industry we have to start at the grass roots level and support the local clubs and get kids involved at a young age!

I took away so much advice not only for my own career, but also to help to inspire others to learn more about what it takes to be a judge that can help you be a better competitor, better horse owner, or inspire you to see what club shows are in your area! We all have to communicate and work together to help support the amazing, talented animals we all love!

I would love to see how you love this episode and the podcast by sharing it on Instagram
