Equine Nutrition 101 with Equine Nutritionist Dr. Jyme Nichols aka the Feed Room Chemist!

I don't know about y'all, but when it comes to nutrition I find myself more fascinated and concerned about what I am putting into my horse's body than my own. I know I should be better about that, but I just love learning about the different nutrients and how they work together to not only nourish my horse for daily life, but what I can also be feeding her to help her perform to the best of her genetic potential. I think there is no one better to talk to on this subject then today's podcast guest, Dr. Jyme Nichols aka the Feed Room Chemist!

If you have listened to Dr. Jyme before you know that she is very passionate about equine nutrition research and finding ways to bring the research down to the owner level so they can learn and understand more about what to look for in providing their horse with the best diet possible. I believe this is a a very important topic to talk about in the equine industry as in today's digital world there can be a lot of misinformation out there from those who may claim to be horse nutrition experts, but don't actually have the credentials to make those decisions about a horse's feeding plan.

That is why Jyme was inspired and motivated to not only become an equine nutritionist, but to start the feed room chemist podcast because she felt the disconnect between what the scientists and researchers were finding in the lab and what owners were seeing on feed store shelves. I know as an owner myself I often find myself looking at all the different kinds of grain bags and I can get very overwhelmed by not knowing what to choose that would be best for my horse. From prices to the different names for products it can be a lot to decide.

Another important reason I wanted to bring Dr. Jyme on the show is because I think the more we as owners learn and stay informed about these nutrition concepts the better it will be for the equine industry as a whole for animal welfare and proper, responsible horse care.

We talk about so many things in this episode from asking the right questions when purchasing a new horse to biohacking and where Dr. Jyme sees it going into the future for the industry. I learned so much from this conversation from learning new terms, where to start on creating a quality feed plan, how nutrition can play a vital role in the training and competing over a performance horse and so much more.

Dr. Jyme has so much heart for helping owners and their horses and as an owner herself she understands the importance of being well informed.
